1. Introduction

Invert, Inc. ("Company," "we," "our," "us") operates invertbio.com and the Invert platform (the "Service").

This Privacy Policy describes how we collect, use, and disclose personal information when you use the Service.

2. Roles and Scope

When you use our website or interact with us directly, Invert acts as a data controller.

When you use our platform as part of an organization, Invert generally acts as a data processor on behalf of that organization, which controls the data processed through the Service. We may still act as a controller for certain information, such as account, billing, security, and how we operate and improve the Service, as described in this policy and, where applicable, in our agreements with your organization.

3. Information We Collect

Information you provide

  • name and contact details (such as email) and, where relevant, professional or organization details (such as company name)
  • account and authentication information
  • information and content you or your organization submit in the platform (such as files, configurations, or operational data)
  • communications with us

Information collected automatically

  • usage data (such as pages visited and actions taken)
  • device and browser information (which may include IP address and approximate location derived from it)
  • cookies and similar technologies

We do not intentionally collect sensitive categories of personal data through our website or standard marketing forms. Your organization may submit a wider range of information through the platform; that processing is governed by our agreement with them where applicable.

4. How We Use Information

We use personal information to:

  • provide and operate the Service, including authentication, accounts, and security
  • support and respond to inquiries
  • improve and monitor the Service
  • meet legal and contractual obligations

Where required by applicable law, we process personal information:

  • to perform a contract with you or your organization
  • based on our legitimate interests, where permitted
  • with your consent, where required
  • to comply with legal obligations

When we act as a processor for your organization, we process personal information in accordance with our agreement with that organization and their instructions.

We may send service-related communications. You can opt out of marketing communications at any time.

5. Customer Data

Personal information included in customer data processed through the platform is controlled by our customers. In this context, Invert acts as a data processor.

We process this information to provide, secure, and support the Service, in accordance with our agreements with the customer and their instructions.

Our use of AI and limited metadata is described in Section 6 (AI and Data Use).

We implement logical and technical controls to isolate customer data between organizations.

6. AI and Data Use

AI features are optional and only used if enabled by you or your organization, as applicable.

Invert may use limited customer metadata, such as filenames, within narrowly scoped internal classification systems to improve product usability (for example, mapping selection). These systems:

  • use limited metadata inputs
  • do not process underlying datasets
  • do not generate content
  • do not affect customer-specific outcomes

Customer data is not used to train general-purpose or cross-customer models unless expressly agreed in writing.

7. Sharing of Information

We may share personal information with:

  • service providers that support our operations
  • affiliates within our corporate group
  • legal, regulatory, or law enforcement authorities when required by law
  • a successor in connection with a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets involving Invert
  • advertising, visitor-identification, and analytics providers on our marketing website, as described in Section 13

We require service providers to process personal information only on our behalf and in accordance with appropriate security and confidentiality obligations.

A list of subprocessors is available upon request or in our Trust Center.

8. Data Retention

We retain personal information only as long as necessary to:

  • provide the Service
  • meet legal obligations
  • resolve disputes and enforce our agreements

When personal information is no longer needed, we delete it, subject to reasonable technical and operational constraints (such as backups) and legal requirements.

Retention of customer data processed on behalf of our customers is governed by our agreements with them.

9. International Transfers

We process personal information in the United States and, where we use service providers or infrastructure in other countries, in those locations as necessary to provide the Service.

When we transfer personal information across borders, we implement appropriate safeguards required by applicable law, such as standard contractual clauses or equivalent measures.

10. Security

We use technical and organizational measures designed to protect personal information, including encryption, access controls, and monitoring. We continuously maintain and improve our security practices.

11. Your Rights

Depending on your location, you may have rights to:

  • access, correct, or delete your personal information
  • restrict or object to certain processing
  • request data portability
  • withdraw consent where processing is based on consent
  • opt out of the sale or sharing of personal information (see Section 13)

We will not discriminate against you for exercising these rights.

If you use the Service through an organization, please contact your organization first. We may only be able to assist as permitted by our role and our agreement with them.

12. Cookies

We use cookies and similar technologies to:

  • operate and secure the Service
  • maintain sessions and user preferences
  • analyze usage to improve the Service

Some cookies are essential and required for the Service to function. Others, such as analytics and advertising cookies, are optional and used only where permitted by applicable law.

You can manage your cookie preferences through the cookie banner, the "Your Privacy Choices" link in the website footer, or your browser settings. You can update your preferences at any time.

Section 13 describes the advertising and visitor-identification tools on our marketing website and how to opt out.

13. Advertising and Visitor Identification (Marketing Website Only)

This section applies only to our marketing website, invertbio.com. It does not apply to the Invert platform (app.invertbio.com). We do not use advertising or visitor-identification tools in the platform, and we do not share customer data processed through the platform with them.

Tools we use

On our marketing website, we use these types of third-party tools:

  • advertising networks and pixels, which measure our ads and show our ads to people who visited our website
  • visitor-identification providers, which identify the company, and in some cases the person, that visits our website, so that we can contact them about Invert
  • analytics providers, including session-recording tools, which help us understand how visitors use our website

We use these tools only with your consent where the law requires it.

You can see the current list of these providers, by category, when you select "Your Privacy Choices" in the footer of our website.

Information these tools collect

  • cookie and device identifiers
  • IP address and approximate location
  • pages viewed, referring page, and actions on the website
  • when a tool can match your visit to a profile that it or its partners hold: name, business email address, job title, company, and LinkedIn profile

How we use this information

  • to measure and improve our advertising
  • to show our ads to people who visited our website
  • to identify companies and people interested in Invert, and to contact them about our products

When you visit or log in to our website, cookies and similar technologies may be used by our online data partners or vendors to associate these activities with other personal information they or others have about you, including by association with your email. We (or service providers on our behalf) may then send communications and marketing to these email addresses. You may opt out of receiving this advertising by visiting https://app.retention.com/optout. You also have the option to opt out of the collection of your personal data in compliance with GDPR by visiting https://www.rb2b.com/rb2b-gdpr-opt-out.

Sale and sharing of personal information

Under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) and similar US state laws, our use of advertising and visitor-identification tools on our marketing website may be a "sale" of personal information, or "sharing" of personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising. In the past 12 months, we may have sold or shared the categories of information listed above with advertising networks and visitor-identification providers.

We do not sell or share personal information included in customer data processed through the Invert platform. We do not knowingly sell or share the personal information of individuals under 16 years of age.

How to opt out

  • Select "Your Privacy Choices" in the footer of our website, and turn off both Analytics and Marketing.
  • Turn on Global Privacy Control (GPC) in your browser. Our website treats a GPC signal as an opt-out of these tools.
  • Email privacy@invertbio.com.

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The "Last updated" date reflects the latest version. We will post updates on this page.
